Hats off to CVR Unit

My wife, Renea, had open heart surgery at River Region. The doctors and the entire nursing staff of the cardiovascular unit are second to no one in the job that they did with my wife and the other patients in the unit that I witnessed for myself.

Some of the other staffing at River Region could learn a lesson by going and walking a day in these fine nurses’ shoes. They are a class group and treat you like family instead of a patient. I tip my hat to everyone working in this unit.

One of the nurses my wife had during recovery from her heart catheterization was from Meridian. He was off the day of her heart surgery, but he called from his home in Meridian to check on my wife — just a very caring group.

The other thing that was good was not having to go to Jackson, which is inconvenient in itself. The surgeons come here the Baptist, St. Dominic and CMMC hospitals in Jackson.

Again I join in with the other people who we spoke with who had the same great things to say about their experiences and stay in the River Region CVR Unit.

Inaugural success

On behalf of the Vicksburg Board of the Mayor and Aldermen, we would like to thank all the citizens of Vicksburg who came out in support of the new administration and participated in the inauguration ceremony.

Many volunteers and employees worked diligently to make sure that this event was a memorable occasion. Special thanks go to the Vicksburg Limousine Service, Carol Frazier and Carl Harris for donating the transportation for Mayor Winfield and family. Also, the Print Shop for the donation of printing services. Sheffield Rental, Kroger, Wal-Mart, The Bed and Breakfast Association, Shirley Waring and various friends and families of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen for the refreshments.

To the members of the Vicksburg Senior Center, students of the Vicksburg Warren School District, St. Al, Porters Chapel and employees of the City of Vicksburg, thank you for hosting the event with such elegance and grace. To Judge Isadore Patrick, Judge Walterine Langford, Judge Vicki Roach Barnes, the Rev. Mike Fields, the Rev. Dr. Casey Fisher, the Rev. Reginald Anderson, the Rev. Henry Mayfield, Mr. Mitch S. Beauman, Ms. Ruby Regan, Mr. Richard McComas, employees of Venue Works, Sgt. Maj. James Bowman and the VHS JRTOC for your splendid service to make this event a success.

Last but certainly not least we want to thank the Vicksburg Police Department for its expertise to devise a plan that would ensure the safety of the public. We realize it took countless hours to make sure that there was ample security due to the enormity of the expected crowd and the Fourth of July Holiday.
