Court report|City man gets 12 years for aggravated assault

A Vicksburg man convicted by a jury June 4 of aggravated assault was sentenced Friday to 12 years in prison.
Shannon M. Doine, 32, 2300 Glass Road, Lot 9, was sentenced by Warren County Circuit Court Judge Isadore Patrick.
Doine was convicted of cutting the throat of Teddy Launius, 29, at a cookout Aug. 30 near Doine’s residence. Launius testified the two had argued after Doine make vulgar comments to Launius’ fiance.
Patrick ordered a sentencing study immediately after the jury came back with its verdict. Written victim-impact statements were considered, said Brenda Therriot, victim assistance coordinator for the court.
Doine’s sentence also includes five years of probation. He could have received a 20-year sentence plus a $10,000 fine.
Also in Warren County Circuit Court during the week ending Friday:
• Pink Adam Andrews, 45, 1718 Lane St., pleaded guilty to driving under the influence, third offense, and was sentenced by Patrick to the 9th Circuit Court Drug Court Program for five years, plus restitution and fines totaling $2,822.50. Andrews was arrested Dec. 8.
• Bryan Michael Barrentine, 24, 629 U.S. 80, Apt. 19, pleaded guilty to malicious credit-card fraud and was sentenced by Judge M. James Chaney to three years of probation, plus fines and restitution totaling $1,640.03. Barrentine was arrested Feb. 26, 2008.
• Howard L. Brooks, 36, 127 Grayline Drive, was found guilty of violating probation and was sentenced by Patrick to three years in prison followed by two years of probation. Brooks was arrested Aug. 25, 2000.
• Joe Ray Chapin, 27, 598 Ring Road, was found guilty of violating probation and was sentenced by Patrick to five years in prison. Chapin was arrested Oct. 8, 2007, for possession of methamphetamine.
• Joseph B. Dickinson, 19, 301 B N. Fairview Drive, was found guilty of violating probation and sentenced by Chaney to the Drug Court Program for five years, plus fines and restitution totaling $2,422.50. Dickinson was arrested Oct. 8 for embezzlement.
• Demitris Ford, 21, 3719 Parkview St., was found guilty of violating probation and was sentenced by Chaney to the Mississippi Department of Corrections Restitution Center at Hinds, Leflore or Jackson county to pay $6,484.19 in past due court fines and restitution, followed by five years of probation. Ford was arrested Feb. 11, 2005, for burglary of an auto and credit-card fraud.
• Brandon D. Freeman, 41, 171 Freeman Lane, pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine and was sentenced by Patrick to six years in prison followed by four years of probation. Freeman was arrested April 24, 2007.
• William Yancy Hodge, 26, 1983 Mississippi 3, Lot 18, Redwood, was found guilty of violating probation and sentenced by Patrick to five years in prison. Hodge was arrested July 28 for possession of methamphetamine and Sept. 4 for felony eluding.
• Terri Jo Hughes, 25, 106 Pinehurst St., pleaded guilty to possession of two or more precursors and was sentenced by Patrick to the Drug Court program for five years, plus restitution and fines totaling $2,122.50. Hughes was arrested March 9.
• George Jones Jr., 53, 5070 U.S. 80 West, Jackson, was found guilty of violating probation and was sentenced by Chaney to three years in prison. Jones was arrested Sept. 5, 2007, for neglect of a vulnerable adult.
• Jerome Wayne Jones, 40, 2053 Heather Drive, was found guilty of violating probation and sentenced by Chaney to five years in prison. Jones was arrested Dec. 10, 2007, for possession of stolen property.
• Jeffery Morrison, 46, 2035 Heather Place, pleaded guilty to possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and was sentenced by Chaney to one year and one day in prison followed by three years of probation, plus fines of $1,322.50. Morrison was arrested Oct. 30, 2007.
• Matthew Wayne Thompson, 24, 2501 Culkin Road, was found guilty of violating probation and was sentenced by Chaney to five years in prison. Thompson was arrested Dec. 7, 2007, for burglary of a business.
• Victoria Wheeler, 22, 1101 Bowmar Ave., Apt. 2, was found guilty of violating probation and sentenced by Patrick to the Drug Court program for five years, plus ordered to pay an undisclosed amount of remaining fines and restitution. Wheeler was arrested Feb. 5, 2007, for felony eluding.
• Oscar T. Williams, 40, 795 Siwell Road, Jackson, was found guilty of violating probation and sentenced by Patrick to three years at the MDOC Restitution Center at Hinds, Leflore or Jackson county to pay $2,129.52 in fines and restitution. Williams was arrested in May 2004 for felony bad check.
In Sharkey County Circuit Court during the week ending Friday:
• Donny Ray Newell, 26, 57 Mat Road, Cary, was found guilty of violating probation and was sentenced by Patrick to the MDOC Restitution Center at Hinds, Leflore or Jackson county to pay $2,527 in past due court fines, restitution and Drug Court supervision fees, followed by one year in the MDOC Intensive Supervision Program. Newell was arrested Dec. 12, 2006, for burglary of a dwelling.
