Americana comes to town through Farmers’ Market

It was there last year. It’s been there for a month and a half this year, and it’s wonderful.

The Vicksburg Farmers’ Market, an effort primarily of volunteers Mary Beth Lasseter, Kristen Meehan and Lamar Horton, is a little piece of Americana — right here in the River City.

Along with the fruits, vegetables, jellies and breads offered by more than a dozen vendors, the market on Saturday mornings has crafts and music, and good music it is.

In addition, and one of the most inviting aspects of the market, is the opportunity for fellowship — the old-time kind of visiting that sometimes seems to be only in memories.

You know… the elderly people teetering about, the babies and toddlers in strollers or running and not just smiling, but laughing, and all those people your age — whatever your age is.

The market on Levee and Grove streets is open from 8 until 11 on Saturday mornings and from 4 until 7 on Wednesday evenings and is expected to keep those hours through Aug. 29.

It’s enjoyable, fun even. It’s a quality-of-life thing.

Be there.
