Low-water inspection set to begin Aug. 9

The Mississippi River Commission will conduct its annual low-water inspection trip Aug. 9-21.

MRC representatives will visit the Illinois River basin, making four stops in Illinois, at Ottawa, Peoria, LaGrange and Alton.

Also, five public hearings will be aboard the MV Mississippi, at 9 a.m.:

• Aug. 14 at City Front in St. Louis.

• Aug. 17 at River Park in Tiptonville, Tenn.

• Aug. 18 at Mud Island in Memphis.

•  Aug. 19 at City Front in Greenville.

• Aug. 21 at Port Commission Dock in Morgan City, La.

The public is invited to present suggestions on water resources, infrastructure, environmental issues, and recreation and navigation.

The MRC’s headquarters is in Vicksburg, inside the Mississippi Valley Division building on Walnut Street. The MRC was established by Congress in 1879 and charged with developing plans to improve the Mississippi River.
