This and that|Extension sets class in gardening series

As part of its First Tuesday Gardening Series, the Warren County Extension Service will offer Multiply Your Favorite Plant.
The session will be at noon Tuesday at the Extension office at 1100-C Grove St.
The speaker will be Donna Beliech, Extension area horticulture specialist. Call 601-636-5442 to register.
Local barber wins Memphis contest
Vicksburg barber and shop owner Sam Semi has won second place in a haircut design contest.
Semi received the honor last weekend in Memphis, at the Madame C.J. Walker Hair Show, named for the Delta, La., native who made a fortune developing and marketing beauty and hair-care products for black women.
Semi’s designs included the cartoon characters Daffy Duck and Garfield, as well as the Tennessee Titans logo. He received $100 and a trophy for placing second among 10 participants.
Semi owns and operates Unlimited Kuts on Halls Ferry Road. He has won other hair competitions.
Faulkner fanatic headed for SCHC
Writer and performer John Maxwell will present a creative writing workshop from 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 3 at the Southern Cultural Heritage Center.
Maxwell, who has a master’s degree in theater from the University of Mississippi, will show students how to bring out their creative sides through short, dramatic monologues. He is the star of “Oh, Mr. Faulkner, Do You Write?,” his traveling, one-man portrayal of Mississippi author William Faulkner.
