Doris Louise Israel died Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009, at Promise Specialty Hospital of Vicksburg. She was 77.
Doris was born on Feb. 22, 1932, in Louisville, Miss., to the late John William Burris and Maude Dempsey Burris.
Moving to Vicksburg in 1953, Doris was associated with the food service industry for over 50 years at Tuminello’s, Maxwell’s, Magnolia Hotel and Monsour’s until her retirement. She was honored as “The Best of the Best” by Vicksburg and her loyal customers for her career in food service.
She is survived by six children, Jeanne Baxley and her husband, Monty, of Edwards, Nancy Covey of Long Beach, Jackie McKay and her husband, Glenn, of Vicksburg, Theresa Sit and her husband, Raymond, of West Monroe, La., Lisa Hearn and her husband, Roy, of Florence, Miss., and Leslie Israel and his wife, Ginger, of Delhi, La.; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles Burris and his wife, Mary, and Bobby Hancock and his wife, Peggy, all of Vicksburg; and a sister, Mary Lee and her husband, Joe Frank, of Mendenhall, Miss.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Bobby Jack Israel; and her brother, James Wesley Burris.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Riles Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Marvin Curtis, pastor of Warrenton Independent Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Riles Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Scott Williams, Chad Sit, Shawn Sit, Shelton Sit, Ken Lyons, Johnny Burris, Ronnie Burris and Greg Dillon.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Warren County constables and members of the Warren County Sheriff’s Department.
