Fifth teenager charged in string of robberies

A Vicksburg teen Thursday became the fifth charged in a string of armed robberies reported across the city in May.
Conti Lashaun Tillis, 17, 1110 Fayette St., was picked up at Vicksburg High School, while attempting to re-enter school, Vicksburg police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.
Tillis is charged with two counts of armed robbery, both reported at City Front in early May.
The others arrested in May for armed robberies at City Front, on Drummond Street, on Oak and Klein streets, on Mulberry Street, Berryman Road and Crawford and Farmer streets were: Warren Central High School basketball star Sha’Kayla Caples, 19, 414 Ford Road; Blake Reed, 17, 2501 Culkin Road Apartment G8; Jacorey Wright, 16, 110 Eva St.; and Deshawn Williams, 17, 119-B Elizabeth Circle.
Not all four of the others were charged in all of the robberies, Stewart said.
Tillis was at the Warren County Jail on $100,000 bond for each of the two counts, Stewart said.
City man charged with having cocaine
A Vicksburg man was charged with for felony possession of cocaine Thursday night after his arrest in the 2900 block of East Main Street, police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.
Charles Bohanon, 68, 340 Youngton Road, was sitting in a parked vehicle when arrested, Stewart said.
Bohanan was held overnight at the Issaquena County Jail and was expected to make his initial court appearance in Vicksburg this morning.
Arrested man faces more charges
A Vicksburg man being booked Wednesday night for strong arm robbery was charged with four counts of accessory after the fact to aggravated in another case, Vicksburg police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.
Eric Anthony Phillips, 20, 226 Greenbriar Drive, had been taken to police headquarters on the robbery charge for strong arm robbery near a business on Clay Street, Stewart said.
The accessory charges stem from a shooting into a car occupied by four people on Mission 66. Jonathan Jackson, 20, 527 1/2 Starlight Drive, was charged in early June with four counts of aggravated assault in that case.
Phillips was to appear in court this morning after being held overnight at the Issaquena County Jail. Jackson was released on bond from the Warren County Jail, Stewart said.
Edwards man jailed after forgery, chase
An Edwards man was charged with prescription forgery after a foot chase with Vicksburg police that ended behind a business in the 1100 block of Washington Street, Vicksburg police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.
John Wesley Shelby, 18, 1101 Mississippi 467 No. A-6, was arrested after the forgery was reported at Peoples Drug Store, 1521 Washington St., at 4:44 p.m. Thursday.
Shelby was being held on $5,000 bond at the Warren County Jail.
Cash reported stolen from car on Hillside
About $500 cash was reported stolen from a 1999 Toyota Camry parked in the 300 block of Hillside Drive at 9:55 p.m. Wednesday, Vicksburg police said.
Five people injured in four wrecks
Five people were injured in car wrecks Wednesday and this morning.
America Peoples, 8 months, and Kristen Thornell, 22, both of 901 Wabash Ave., were taken to River Region Medical Center after a two-car wreck near 3326 Clay St. at 5:46 p.m. Wednesday.
No information was provided on the passengers of the other vehicle.
Michael Battle, 39, 109 Allendale Place, was injured a one-car rollover at Sky Farm and Wabash avenues at 11:38 a.m.
Steven Whitehead, 39, 281 Grange Hall Road, was injured in a wreck involving a car and a motorcycle at 5:09 p.m.
The passengers were treated and released from River Region, hospital spokesmen said.
In this morning’s wreck, reported at 7:43, Jennifer Ward, 29, 581 Stenson Road, was traveling south on U.S. 61 South in a 1987 Jeep Cherokee when a Chevrolet Traverse driven by Gillis C. McMahon, 85, 5542 Jeff Davis Road, struck her vehicle as he was attempting to cross onto Warrenton Road from U.S. 61 South, said traffic investigator Eric Paymon.
Ward was being treated in the emergency room at River Region late this morning.
