Former South Panola star running back Darius “Tig” Barksdale was arrested Thursday night and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, the Jackson Clarion-Ledger reported on its Web site.
The newspaper reported Barksdale also was charged with driving without a license. He is free on bond, the paper reported.
Ole Miss football coach Houston Nutt released a statement through the athletic department.
“We are currently gathering information on Tig Barksdale’s situation. While we are disappointed with this news, this is why we are in coaching. We will try to help this young man’s life with structure, discipline, support and love. He needs to be in a structured environment, and we will deal with this situation in an appropriate manner,” Nutt said.
