PORT GIBSON — Irene Holmes died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009, at River Region Medical Center. She was 86.

Mrs. Holmes was a member, usher and mother at Rising Sun M.B. Church in Port Gibson. She was a member of the Sugar Hill Community Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie T. Holmes Sr.; a daughter, Helen Holmes-Mills; and four sons, Joe Willie Thomas, Willie T. Holmes Jr., Leonard E. Holmes and Mike C. Holmes.

She is survived by two daughters, Eva Johnson of Port Gibson and Mattie Brown of Milwaukee, Wis.; two sons, Charles Holmes and Aubrey Dell Holmes, both of Port Gibson; a sister, Lois Lockhart of Port Gibson; 33 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; 38 great-great-grandchildren; five great-great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rising Sun M.B. Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. Larry Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Springhill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday at Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson and Saturday at the church from 1 p.m. until the service.
