Derrick to marry May at St. Michael Catholic

The engagement of Dana Louise Derrick of Vicksburg to Daniel Olen May of Chantilly, Va., is announced today. Vows will be exchanged at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 17, 2009, at St. Michael Catholic Church. A reception will follow in the parish hall of the church. All relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Miss Derrick is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Johnny McGregor and Mr. and Mrs. David Derrick, all of Vicksburg. She is the granddaughter of Scotty Campbell, the late Jane Campbell, and Mr. and Mrs. Garvin Sherard, all of Vicksburg, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Derrick of Buffalo, N.Y.
Mr. May is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Michael May of Hattiesburg. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Stewart of Florence and the late Mr. and Mrs. Olen May of Philadelphia.
The bride-elect graduated as salutatorian in 2005 from St. Aloysius High School.
She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics and biology from Mississippi University for Women. She also studied abroad in Argentina and Mexico.
Miss Derrick is a biological student aide in the Environmental Laboratory at the Engineer Research Development Center.
The prospective groom is a 2001 graduate of Oak Grove High School. He received a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree in computer engineering from Mississippi State University, where he served as president of Tau Beta Pi and interned for three years at Lawrence Livermore Laboratory in Livermore, Calif.
Mr. May is a digital signal processing engineer for Science Applications International Corp. in Chantilly.
