Warren Central used a solid hitting performance, some shaky defense by its opponent, and a sterling pitching debut from seventh-grader Hannah Krapac to win it season-opener Saturday, 11-2 over South Delta.

The Lady Vikes belted out 10 hits and used six South Delta errors to jump to an 8-0 lead after three innings. Blair Thornton went 3-for-4, while Krista Cortezie and Karley Hinson had two hits apiece. Megan McCullough only had one hit, but drove in six runs with a combination of sacrifice flies and run-scoring groundouts.

Krapac scattered six hits in seven innings. She didn’t give up any runs until the top of the seventh.

“I was pleased with the way we played. We put people in a lot of positions and got a chance to see what we need to work on,” WC coach Lucy Young said.

The Lady Vikes return to action at home on Tuesday at 6 p.m. against Ridgeland.
