One NBA and one NFL great turned up at Trustmark Park on Monday.
The baseball team that plays there didn’t show up.
Four Mobile pitchers combined on a four-hitter, Bryan Byrne went 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and two runs scored, and the BayBears handed the Mississippi Braves a 4-1 loss.
After NBA star Tracy McGrady and former New Orleans Saints running back Deuce McAllister — in town to promote the opening of their new restaurant — threw out the ceremonial first pitch, Mobile’s Bryan Augenstein started throwing out M-Braves.
He allowed one hit and no walks in three shutout innings. Josh Ellis (4-2) followed with three more innings of shutout ball, and Daniel Stange and Leyson Septimo finished up.
The M-Braves didn’t score until Eric Campbell led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a solo homer. The M-Braves were retired in order four times and hit into a double play.
Mobile scored twice in the second.
