A Jackson man surrendered to Vicksburg police in an armed robbery Wednesday and possibly will be a suspect in a number of Jackson-area crimes, Lt. Bobby Stewart of the Vicksburg Police Department said this morning.
Daniel Kersh, 25, 824 Lawrence Road, is accused of taking a purse and $200 from a woman at gunpoint in the parking lot of Pemberton Square mall on July 24, Stewart said.
Kersh was in the Warren County Jail this morning on a $50,000 bond.
In addition to the Vicksburg charges, Stewart said Kersh was being held on a Jackson warrant for one count of armed robbery and for a bond violation in Flowood, which is in Rankin County and also in the Jackson metro area.
A photograph of Kersh, which was published in The Vicksburg Post and broadcast on area television news shows Wednesday, apparently was recognized by several people who said they, too, were victims of Kersh’s crimes, Stewart said.
No other formal charges had been filed, he said.
“They’re still investigating other cases that Kersh might be linked to,” he said.
Kersh is the second person arrested in the robbery outside Vicksburg’s mall.
Victoria Barton, 25, 125 Pine Knoll Drive Apt. 417, Ridgeland, was charged Tuesday afternoon with armed robbery and remained in the Warren County Jail today on a $30,000 bond.
Kersh had been convicted of controlled substance violations for sale and possession of marijuana and cocaine, Stewart said, but he did not know in which jurisdiction.
