in merchandise taken from store on Clay
More than $4,000 in merchandise was reported stolen from a Vicksburg business early Saturday morning and police believe four juveniles are responsible.
Maurice’s T-shirts, 2121 Clay St., reported clothing, wallets, belts and belt buckles, lighters, costume jewelry, hats and other goods were taken at about 3 a.m., said Sgt. Larry Holloway.
Nearby surveillance cameras show four young men pushing County Market shopping carts full of merchandise north on Hayes toward Grove, Holloway said. County Market is at 2101 Clay St., at the corner of Hayes. Some of the empty carts were found on Grove Street.
A few of the items taken from the store were dropped and recovered, Holloway said, but goods valued at $4,300 were still missing Saturday night, and no arrests had been made. Holloway stopped short of saying police have identified suspects, but said they had “persons of interest” they want to question.
County Market also reported a problem with phone lines into the store, and that its alarm system was not working, he said.
The break-in appeared to have been made through a church next door. Nothing was stolen from the church, but damage was done to a wall, Holloway said.
