Armed robbery charges are expected to be filed this week against a Vicksburg native suspected of robbing a Flowood bank Friday afternoon.
Jason Wayne Sibley, whom a family member said is 35, was arrested by Flowood police shortly after the robbery of a BankPlus branch.
Sibley walked into the bank shortly before 6 p.m. carrying a handgun and demanding money, officials said. After being given cash, he fled in a vehicle, and was chased by police before losing control of his car and crashing, Flowood Police Chief Johnny DeWitt said.
The cash and gun were recovered at the wreck, and Sibley was treated at River Oaks Hospital in Flowood.
Rankin County Sheriff Ronnie Pennington would not say Saturday night whether Sibley was at the jail.
Flowood police identified Sibley as a Brandon resident, and a family member said he had lived there for “a couple of years.”
Sibley also had lived in California while in the Air Forec, is married and has no children, the family member said.
Sibley grew up in Vicksburg and attended Porters Chapel Academy, graduating in the early 1990s. It was not known when he last lived in Vicksburg.
His arrest for the bank robbery “totally surprised” the family. “No one would have expected it,” the family member said.
DeWitt said Sibley likely will appear in court on an armed robbery charge unless he’s charged with a federal crime. The FBI is assisting in the case, he said.
Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said Sibley, who had a previous address off Oak Ridge Road, has no record in the county.
