Services for Gladys Smith Pettway will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Cary Stockett officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the service.

Mrs. Pettway died Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis. She was 92.

A longtime resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Pettway had lived in the Memphis area for the last six years. She was a native of Jefferson County and was the daughter of Willie and Sallie Smith.

She was a member of the Aldersgate Class at Crawford Street United Methodist Church and retired as purchasing agent for the City of Vicksburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Buford Pettway.

She is survived by a son, James Buford “Jimmy” Pettway Jr. of Knoxville, Tenn.; a daughter, Priscilla Pettway Griffith of Byhalia; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and other relatives.
