V’Shanti Washington

V’Shanti Washington died Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009, at Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children in Jackson. She was 6.

V’Shanti was a first-grader at Dana Road Elementary. She was member of New Beginning M.B. Church, where she was in Sunday school. She was a member of the Girl Scouts.

She was preceded in death by her maternal great-grandmother, Nettie Tolliver; and a paternal grandfather, the Rev. U.J. Moffett Jr.

She is survived by her grandmother and guardian, Catherine Washington of Vicksburg; her parents, Shirka Washington and U.J. Moffett III, both of Vicksburg; one brother, RasDashaun Washington of Vicksburg; one sister, Shalexia Williams of Vicksburg; her maternal grandfather, Tommie Washington of Vicksburg; her paternal grandmother, Ida Mae Moffett of Vicksburg; and aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Carmel Ministries with the Rev. Andrew Cook, V’Shanti’s uncle, officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. Friday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home.
