AmeriCorps, youth help
The Vicksburg Warren Humane Society would like to acknowledge the hard work that AmeriCorps and the Grove Street Baptist Church performed for the shelter Aug. 22. Together, these two groups totaled 40 young people who helped us get past-due projects completed. We are truly fortunate to have AmeriCorps in town and Terrence Jones with the church who knows and understands the value in leading our youth in helping others. Both groups were amazing in their dedication towards this project. We also thank Bill and Mary Ellen Earthman, who provided lunch and their assistance in helping the shelter with this endeavor.

Excellent patient care
I would like to say some wonderful things about our physicians in town. I was hospitalized for a illness that required a part of my lung to be removed and another malignancy following that. I had extensive hospital stays, then this was followed by radiation and chemotherapy.
I would like to thank Dr. Paul W. Pierce III of Medical Associates of Vicksburg for taking such good care of me. He has sent me to some excellent specialists here in Vicksburg, and I would like to say thank you to them. They are Dr. McLean Jarmon, Dr. David Halinski, Dr. Lee Humble, Dr. Paul W. Pierce IV, Dr. Murray Whitaker, Dr. Steven Zachow, and Dr. Martin Newcomb. All these physicians have taken care of me during my illnesses.
I was a patient at River Region and I have no complaints about the care I received there. The nursing staff took good care of me during my numerous stays in the hospital. I have had a number of health problems, but have overcome them so far and would like to say thank you to all that took care of me.

Family says thanks
My family and I wanted to express our heartfelt thanks and appreciation for the kindness you have shown us this past week. Our visit to your city was bittersweet. Our son-in-law, attached to the 412th, was being deployed.
Your public support, thoughtfulness and the tears which you shed with us helped more than you can ever realize. We know that our next visit, when each and every member of the 412th returns safely, you’ll be there as well. God bless you and your families.

Volunteers on the spot
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our volunteers for assisting the many families affected by a fire at River Oaks apartment on Aug. 12. Red Cross volunteers have a true compassion for helping others.
Also, I would like to graciously express thanks to our “Help a Friend “partners. Ameristar, DiamondJacks, Rainbow and Riverwalk casinos provided lodging for the families.
Individuals and local businesses working together helps strengthen our entire community. It also ensures our local Red Cross chapter can continue providing immediate emergency assistance to individuals involved in a devastating disaster quickly.
