Jogging their memories

Army Sgts. Patrick E. Bacon, left, and John S. Carlisle, both of Jackson, jog over the Big Black River Sunday on the first day of the “Mississippi Fallen Heroes Home Stretch.” The two are running 15 miles a day from the Mississippi River to the Alabama state line on U.S. 80. They expect to arrive at the Alabama state line on Sept. 11.  “We’ve always wanted to do something to remember the friends we lost in the war,” said Sgt. Bacon.  “We wanted to do something big to make sure the families know we still care and we haven’t forgotten.”  The runners are posting yellow ribbons along the way and will conduct a ceremony at the War Memorial building at 120 South State St. in Jackson on Sept. 2 at 7:30 a.m. (Katie Carter*The Vicksburg Post)
