Devin Britton gave the world’s top-ranked tennis player a run for his money.

The former Ole Miss star from Brandon lost to Roger Federer, the world’s top-ranked player, in straight sets 6-1, 6-3, 7-5. Federer advanced to the second round of the U.S. Open tennis tournament, the final of the four tennis majors which make up the Grand Slam.

In May, Britton became the youngest player ever to win an NCAA singles championship. The 18-year-old earned a wild-card entry into the U.S. Open.
