Poverty Point State Historic Site will present programs this Labor Day weekend.
A tool demonstration will be each hour from 1 to 4 p.m. today. On Monday, the staff will host crafts activities from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Both programs will be at the site, located in West Carroll Parish, east of Monroe on Louisiana 577.
Admission is $2 and includes access to the museum and video and tram tours. Children younger than 12 and seniors older than 62 are admitted free.
Poverty Point offers visitors the opportunity to study the culture of area inhabitants from 1600 to 1300 B.C.

Hit the Bricks set for Thursday
Hit the Bricks and Adjoining Streets, a semiannual downtown shopping event, will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
During the after-hours event sponsored by the Vicksburg Main Street Program, Washington Street-area merchants extend their hours.

Concert organist to kick off MC series
Mississippi College will celebrate the 150th birthday of its oldest building, Provine Chapel, with a Sept. 15 concert featuring organist Janette Fishell.
Fishell has toured Asia, Europe and the United States and is chairman of the organ department at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. Her 7:30 p.m. performance will be free, and kicks off a series of five concerts at Provine Chapel. The series will include the MC Singers’ Festival of Lights, which rings in the Christmas season.
Provine Chapel was the first building constructed on the Clinton campus after the university became associated with the Mississippi Baptist Convention in 1850. The building houses a restored organ.

Zoo to party wild with fundraiser
The Jackson Zoo will host ZooParty 2009 from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday for guests 21 and older.
This year’s theme is Malaysian Magic, and the event will feature a silent auction and cuisine from 14 Jackson restaurants.
Advance tickets are $55 for Friends of the Zoo and $65 for nonmembers, or $70 at the door. Proceeds will support improvements to the zoo’s Asian exhibits. Dress is safari casual or Asian formal.
