Employee arrested in theft from Washington shoe store

A Vicksburg man was in the Warren County Jail today charged with the burglary of a business.

Richard Allen Smith, 19, 2535 Oak St., is accused of taking five pairs of Air Jordan sneakers from Clay’s Tips and Toes shoe store, 2101 Washington St., police Sgt. Douglas King said.

Smith, who works in maintenance at the store, was arrested at the Vicksburg police headquarters at noon Monday after being taken there by a store employee.

“The employee went to Smith’s house to talk to him and found the shoes at his house,” said King.

Smith was being held on $20,000 bond.

Seven auto burglaries reported in city

Seven possibly related automobile burglaries were reported in Vicksburg, police Sgt. Douglas King said.

A CD player valued at $450 was reported missing from a 1996 Cadillac El Dorado in the 300 block of Bayou Boulevard at 7:40 p.m. Friday.

A knife valued at $20, a pair of Eagle sunglasses valued at $25 and various CDs were reported stolen from a 2004 Ford pickup at 9:13 a.m. Sunday.

In other city burglaries, a brown 1973 Ford Grand Torino with antique Mississippi plates was reported stolen from the 1700 block of Grove Street at 12:38 Monday afternoon.

A 42-inch LG flat panel TV valued at $3,500 and a PlayStation 3 valued at $199 was reported stolen from a home in the 1500 block of Bodley Street at 12:35 Monday afternoon.

A checkbook was reported stolen at 11:23 a.m. Friday after the victim received an overdraft notice from her bank.

Three checks totaling $155 were reported being passed at J.R. Chevron, 4306 Halls Ferry Road, Oak Park Bestway, 6110 Indiana Ave., and electronically at Cyber Collect.

Phone, cash, mower missing in county

In Warren County, a cell phone, cash and a riding mower were among items reported stolen, records showed.

An LG Xenon cell phone valued at $300 was reported missing from a bookbag at Warren Central High School, 1000 Mississippi 27, at 6:21 p.m. Friday.

A Cub Cadet riding mower valued at $2,100 was reported stolen from a home in the 100 block of Ragan Drive at 9:10 a.m. Saturday.

A stainless steel propane grill valued at $250 and a 5-gallon propane tank valued at $40 were reported stolen from a home in the 4200 block of U.S. 80 at 7:22 p.m. Saturday.

A .22-revolver handgun valued at $85 was reported stolen from a purse in the 2700 block of Fisher Ferry Road at 8:14 p.m. Saturday.

About $30 was reported stolen from a purse in a home in the 3000 block of Mount Alban Road at 6:17 p.m. Monday.
