A Vicksburg man was charged with rape and possession of a weapon by a felon after surrendering to police Monday afternoon.

Eddie Miller Jr., 48, 1507 1/2 Lane St., is accused of raping a woman at an abandoned building in the 2500 block of Halls Ferry Road Saturday morning.

Miller introduced himself to the victim at her friend’s house that morning and asked her for a ride, Vicksburg police Sgt. Sandra Williams said.

“She agreed to give him a ride to the convenience store. Along the way, he pulled a gun on her and forced her into the abandoned house,” Williams said.

Police Lt. Bobby Stewart said Miller surrendered after patrolmen started checking all of his known addresses.

“We urged family members to get him to turn himself in,” Stewart said.

Miller was being held at the Warren County Jail without bond because he was wanted by the Mississippi Department of Corrections for probation violation, Williams said.
