David Page Jr.

HERMANVILLE — David Page Jr. died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009, at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He was 74.
Mr. Page was member of St. Peter A.M.E. Church and the Masons. He was the first black non-working superintendent in the country where he was employed with Robert E. McKee in Los Angeles. His project was the Martin Luther King Hospital in Watts. He was retired from the U.S. Army as an engineer. He won numerous awards, including the National Historic Award of the Power Library at the University of California at Los Angeles.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David Page Sr. and Hettye Taylor-Page; a daughter, Hettye Page; and a brother, Alex Barton Page.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Page of Port Gibson; two sons, David Page III of Cerritos, Calif., and Jomo Page of Los Angeles; a sister, Mattie Fagen-Perry of Los Angeles; and five grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter A.M.E. Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. Dr. Ervin Harris officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Vicksburg with Thompson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with family hour from 6 until 7 and Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service at the church.
