PORT GIBSON — Savannah Johnson died Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, at St. Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson. She was 83.
Mrs. Johnson was a member of China Grove Baptist Church in Russum and the Baptist and Christian aids.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnny and Hattie Williams-Johnson; her stepfather, George Tucker; a son, Joe Earl Johnson; and a brother, Johnny Johnson Jr.
She is survived by three sons, Charles Jones of Gilford, Fla., and Connie Johnson and Henry Johnson, both of Vicksburg; two daughters, Willie Ruth Tate of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Daisy Johnson of Port Gibson; a brother, Samuel Johnson of Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister, Inez Kelly of St. Louis; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other relatives; and friends.
Services will be at noon Saturday at China Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Leon Nelson officiating. Burial, directed by Thompson Funeral Home of Port Gibson, will be at McCay Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Friday at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel and from 11 a.m. until the service at the church.
