October events kick off Saturday with fall fest, flea market

Fall is here, and Vicksburg and area events will fill the October calendar. Offerings will include festivals, contests, theatre productions, art shows and more.
Downtown Fall Festival

This 15th annual downtown event is set for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and will include sidewalk sales, children’s activities, food, live entertainment and exhibits along Washington Street. Admission is free.

This 27th annual event is set for 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. It will feature dozens of food and vendor booths of homemade goods. The Mississippi Old Time Music Society will play on the courthouse lawn, and the museum will be open for tours. Tour prices are $5 for adults, $4.50 for ages 65 and older and $3 for students.

A bust of Ed Bearss will be unveiled at noon Saturday at the USS Cairo exhibit at the military park. Bearss was instrumental in raising the sunken Cairo, an ironclad Civil War gunboat, in the 1960s.

Set for 8 a.m. Oct. 10, this event will feature a 5-mile walk, 5-mile run and 1-mile fun run. Events will start at the U.S. 80 bridge. Proceeds will benefit the Southern Cultural Heritage Center. This third annual event will kick off at 9 a.m. Oct. 10 on the grounds of Court House Square in Tallulah. It will feature children’s activities, wildlife exhibits and food and craft vendors, along with live entertainment headlined by native son and Elvis impersonator Shea Arender.
