A trial on misdemeanor disturbance charges for the man arrested Saturday at the Old Court House Flea Market was set for Oct. 26 after he pleaded innocent in Vicksburg Municipal Court.

Micah Bishop, 34, 329 Lakeview Drive, had his initial court appearance Monday in Municipal Court before City Judge Nancy Thomas. Court starts at 8 a.m.

Bishop claimed his First Amendment rights were violated when he was arrested Saturday by Vicksburg police while “preaching the Gospel” at the intersection of Monroe and Jackson streets. The charges are disturbing the peace and failure to obey a lawful order of a police officer.

A cameraman taping Bishop’s message also was arrested.

The two were released after posting bond.
