Backlash will be big

Today I’m reacting to a letter in Sunday’s Post (Oct. 4) from Mr. William W. Watson of St. Joseph, La., “It’s wrong to view the Constitution as an inconvenience.” My reaction to Mr. Watson’s comments is, “Good on ya, mate!”
One of the major threads through American history, going back even before we were a country, is the distrust by the citizenry of the central government. The type of czar Mr. Watson visualizes is, of course, a pipe dream … never happen!
The original Constitution had a real rocky road to passage until the fathers added the first 10 amendments — the Bill of Rights, of course. They said that no matter how strong the central government got, it couldn’t deny citizens their basic rights … and they got it pretty much right on!
In the news I heard a term mentioned that must have struck terror into the hearts of elected officials in D.C. When the word came up, I could visualize all their colleagues around them saying, “Shush!” That word was “backlash”! If our esteemed “rulers” in Congress continue their attempt to destroy our economy for generations to come, maybe the next Congress (the “backlash” Congress) can attempt to undo the damage. It may not be too late. It’ll be tough seeing all those now in Congress (less the two-thirds of the Senate not up for election, but their turn will come) added to the unemployment rolls, but so be it. We of the Tea Party have taken a long time to get to this state of arousal, but never fear, our memories will be long.
