A four-car wreck at U.S. 61 North and Sherman Avenue Tuesday night resulted in injuries.

Four people, all in the same vehicle, were headed east about 7:20 on Sherman Avenue to River Region Medical Center in a Volvo driven by Callie Brown, 17, 35 Round Alley, said Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol Trooper Wayne Smith.

Brown ran the red light at the intersection and collided with a northbound Dodge Ram driven by Shondrick Tucker, 34, 9 S. Sixth, Rolling Fork, Smith said. With Brown were Quinshayla Powell, 20, and 1-year-old Jamya Rose, both of 13 Young Alley, and Jontaye Jones, 20, 43 Randle St.

Brown was taking Powell to the hospital, Smith said, adding, “witnesses stated Tucker could not avoid striking Brown.”

Callie Brown’s vehicle then struck a Chevrolet pickup — pointed west toward Sherman and stopped at the light — driven by Billy Brown, 50, 15 Nicholas St. Tucker’s vehicle was struck by a northbound Ford Expedition driven by Patricia Adcock, 39, 102 Ridgelawn Drive.

“It appears that Powell wasn’t wearing her seat belt,” said Smith. “Powell was ejected from the back window and suffered multiple injuries.”

Tucker’s wife, name unavailable, was traveling with him, Smith said, but she was not hurt. Several other people were in the car with Adcock, Smith added, but they weren’t hurt either.

Callie Brown and Rose were treated and released from River Region, but there was no record of Johnson, hospital spokesman Allen Karel said.

Powell was transferred to University Medical Center, where she was in fair condition this morning, said Patrice Guilfoyle, a hospital spokesman.
