Calendar chock-full of Vicksburg Halloween events

Halloween is Saturday, less than a week away. A sampling of Vicksburg treats:
Parade and costume contest
This 22nd annual event is sponsored by Vicksburg’s Main Street. Children 12 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Festivities will be canceled if it rains. After the parade, youths may visit downtown merchants for trick-or-treating. Call 601-634-4527 or visit www.downtownvicksburg.org for more information.
• 9 a.m. — Contest, Grove and Washington streets.
• 10:30 a.m. — Parade along Washington; line up at Grove and Washington.
Ghost hunt Duff Green Mansion
1114 First East St.
• 4 p.m. — $60 per person, reservations required; danny@mississippiparanormalresearch.com.
Spooky Pooch
This contest for pets will be at the Outlets at Vicksburg. Proceeds will benefit Paws Rescue. For information, call 601-529-1535 or visit www.pawsrescuepets.org.
• 2 p.m. — $5 per category.
Trick-or-Treat
• Outlets at Vicksburg — 6-7 p.m.
• City and county — 5-8 p.m.; no age stipulations, but officials suggest trick-or-treaters be accompanied by an adult, wear light-colored clothing and carry a flashlight.

• 11 a.m. — “Storytime with Edgar Allan Poe” with Vicksburg actor Paul Bennett.
• 4 p.m. — “Fried Green Zombies” by Vicksburg native John A. Allen.
Costume parties and contests
• Eddie Monsour’s at The Biscuit Company — 10 p.m.-2 a.m.; music by the Blues Dudes; $5 admission; $100 for first place, $50 for second place and $25 for third place.; 1100 Washington St.; 601-638-1571.
