A Vicksburg resident is one of three finalists for the Paraoptometric of the Year award, given annually by the Mississippi Optometric Association.

Janet Nelson is a paraoptometric technician at Ridgeland Eyecare Center and has been a member of the Mississippi Paraoptometric Association for six years, during which she served as vice president in 2006-07. She has spent nearly three decades in the field of paraoptometry. Paraoptometrists provide physician support.

The winner will be announced in November and will be in the running for the Southern Council of Optometrists’ Para of the South award. That winner will then be considered for the American Optometric Association’s Paraoptometric of the Year award.
