An Alabama man working on a towboat on the Yazoo and Mississippi rivers was arrested on his way into Vicksburg Tuesday after U.S. Marshals Office alerted the Warren County Sheriff’s Department.

Jerel Deon Young, 26, 72 Family Circle, Boligee, Ala., was sought by Sumter County, Ala., authorities for attempted murder. He also is wanted in Tuscaloosa, Ala., for robbery and in Pickens County, Ala., for burglary, said Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace.

Warren County deputies were alerted by U.S. Marshals that Young might be traveling in the area by tugboat, which was identified during an investigation, Pace said.

Deputies on a Warren County patrol boat boarded the vessel at 9:30 a.m. and picked Young up on the Yazoo River near the Vicksburg Harbor.

He was taken to the Warren County Jail where he was being held without bond pending his extradition to Alabama, Pace said.

Deputies believe the boat owner and pilot did not know Young was wanted, Pace said.
