FAYETTE — Nathaniel W. Martin Sr. died Sunday, Nov.1, 2009, at his home in Fayette. He was 89.
Mr. Martin was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church in Port Gibson. He was a veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Annie Wilson; two daughters, Jacqueline Martin and Gloria Martin Walker; two brothers, David Martin and Alexander Martin; two sisters, Lucille Coleman and Mary M. Alexander; and a wife, Hazel Martin.
He is survived by his wife, Mollie Martin of Fayette; three sons, Frederick Martin Sr. and Nathaniel Martin, both of Port Gibson, and Richard Bingman of Oakland, Calif.; six daughters, Gardenia Griffin, Shirley Henderson and Cherrie Spiller, all of Port Gibson, Joyce Dennis of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Rosemary Rachelson of Taos, N.M., and Tommie Martin of Cleveland, Ohio; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. Billy Billups, assisted by the Rev. James Dorsey, officiating. Burial will follow at Wilson Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 6 today at Thompson Funeral Home of Port Gibson and from 10 a.m. until the service Saturday at the church.
