Two local garden clubs take district awards

Two Vicksburg garden clubs received some of the top awards given at the fall River Road District meeting in Stoneville.

Morning Gardeners club won third place Outstanding Garden Club and Honor Roll distinction. The Outstanding Club award is given to the three clubs in the district that score the highest in all phases of garden club work.

Openwood Plantation Garden Club was one of two clubs in the district to be designated a Blue Ribbon club, recognizing emphasis on programs and projects related to the state president’s agenda.

Those two and Green Hills, Hester Flowers and Town and Country clubs all received Awards of Merit for their historic preservation project involving the Vicksburg Garden Clubs Planters Hall mural at City Front and for hosting the spring River Roads District meeting in June.

The  River Roads District is one of six in the state. The Garden Clubs of Mississippi, with 4,297 members, is part of the National Council of State Garden Clubs Inc.
