Check property records

It is unfortunate that we usually find out things when something happens to us personally. I would like to tell — actually warn —  the people of Warren County and Vicksburg to go to the courthouse to the “map department” and get a map of your property. It just might be possible that your property line has been changed without your knowledge and without notice.

I was informed by the tax assessors that they did not have to tell anyone when changes were made to someone’s property lines. I know you are all saying, “That can’t happen.” That’s exactly what I thought and what I kept and keep hearing.

It is possible for anyone in this county to “think” they own land, when, in fact, they could not own it or at least a big part of it at all. All someone has to do is find a surveyor (which seems to be easy) to do a survey, take it to the tax assessor and they redraw the maps.

I have been advised by state land managers that every person should check property boundaries every year.

Watch your property,  and do not trust your elected officials and their minions. They will not tell you the truth. I was also informed that unless your drive has a “private drive” sign, it is public property open to all.
