May, Derrick exchange vows Oct. 17 at St. Michael Catholic Church

Daniel Olen May and Dana Louise Derrick were married at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 17, 2009, at St. Michael Catholic Church. The Rev. Patrick Curley officiated at the ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Donna McGregor and the late Johnny McGregor and Mr. and Mrs. David Derrick, all of Vicksburg. She is the granddaughter of Scottie Campbell and the late Jane Campbell and Mr. and Mrs. Garvin Sherard, all of Vicksburg, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Derrick of Buffalo, N.Y.

The groom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Michael May of Hattiesburg. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Stewart of Florence and the late Mr. and Mrs. Olen May of Philadelphia, Miss.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride’s chosen colors were marine, silver and white. Flowers were placed in memory of the bride’s stepfather.

A program of nuptial music was presented by Dr. Lillian Wakeley, pianist; Michael Battalio, cellist; Marla Turner and Pete Montalbano, soloists; and members of Dante’s Dulcimers: Evelyn Bass, Lee Byrne, Virginia Monsour, Ginger Rebert, JoAnne Ashley and Virginia Clarke, aunt of the bride.

Maids of honor were Emilee Booth and Angela McCollum, both of Vicksburg. Bridesmaids were Erin May and Gwen May, sisters of the groom, of Hattiesburg; Amy Rainer, stepsister of the bride, and Ellen Wakeley, both of Vicksburg; and Marla Turner of Florence.

The groom’s father and Greg May, brother of the groom, of Hattiesburg served as best men. Groomsmen were Ian Derrick, brother of the bride, of Vicksburg; Paxton Lowrey of Hattiesburg; Allen Taheri of Jackson; Gregory Harris of Birmingham, Ala.; and Patrick Walker of Augusta, Ga.

Ushers were the groomsmen and Howie Starnes, stepbrother of the bride, of Vicksburg.

Flower girl was Peyton Rainer, niece of the bride, of Vicksburg. Ring bearer was Rylan Mulliken, cousin of the bride, of Ardmore, Pa.

Lectors were Emilee Booth of Vicksburg and Dr. Michael May and Greg May, both of Hattiesburg.

Lisa Gwin and Mary Katherine Gwin served as special wedding assistants.

A reception followed in the parish hall of the church. Hostesses were Linda Holman, Kay Goss, Joann McCarthy and Maria Rowden.

Serving the wedding cake was Amber Bufkin, cousin of the bride. The groom’s cake was served by Natalie Dorin, cousin of the bride.

Patrick Murphy, cousin of the bride, served punch.

Special reception assistants were Jean Marie Mabry and Julie Mabry.

For a wedding trip, the couple traveled to the Bahamas.

They will make their home in Chantilly, Va. The bride is employed at Bowhead Information Technology Services, and the groom is employed at Science Application Information Corporation.

Rehearsal dinner

On the eve of the wedding, the groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at The Duff Green Mansion for friends, church members and family of the bride and groom.

Showers

Amelia Shull and Marla Turner honored the bride with a shower at Hasting-Simmons Hall on the campus of Mississippi University for Women. Special guests were college friends of the bride.

The bride was honored, along with bride-elect Mary Katherine Gwin, in a joint shower given by Emilee Booth and Lisa Gwin at the Gwin residence. Special guests were mutual high school friends and teachers.

The bride’s aunts, Angela Murphy and Sandra Rosado, honored her with a shower at the Murphy residence. Special guests were family members of the bride and groom.

The bride and groom were honored with a shower at Heritage United Methodist Church in Hattiesburg. Hosts were members of the Heritage United Methodist Church Chancel Choir. Special guests were family, friends and church members.
