Jurors head to scene of crime

Jurors who will decide the fate of Eric Davis left the courtroom today and were taken to the scene where prosecutors said Davis shot and killed Devin M. Moore on June 25, 2008.

The visit to Meadowvale Drive will include police testimony before jurors are returned to the Warren County Courthouse for the second day of Davis’ trial on a murder charge.

Moore, who was 23, lived at 106 Meadowvale, off Sky Farm Avenue. Davis, 35, lived at the time of the shooting with his girlfriend at 112 Meadowvale Drive, said District Attorney Ricky Smith. Davis and Moore, and Moore’s mother, Helen Williams, had an ongoing feud about the line between their properties. Defense attorney John Bullard told jurors Davis acted in self-defense.

Neighbors called 911 shortly after 10 p.m. after hearing a number of shots. Moore was pronounced dead a short time later at River Region Medical Center with gunshot wounds in his chest, back, legs and buttocks.

Davis turned himself in to police that night.

The trial began Monday in Warren County Circuit Court with jury selection. The nine-woman, three-man panel, with two men chosen as alternates, was seated just before 5 p.m.

Judge Isadore Patrick sequestered the jury, busing them to dinner and then to a hotel for the night. Patrick instructed them not to watch or read news, but otherwise allowed TV. Jurors’ cell phones were taken.

It was the second site visit for jurors in a Warren County murder trial this year. In March, jurors were taken to the front yard at 2634 Ken Karyl Ave. near where a woman, her unborn baby and a man were shot and killed the day after Moore was killed. Eric Jackson was found guilty of the triple murder and is serving a life sentence in prison.
