Irene M. Nelson died Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, at her residence. She was 79.

Born in Sykesville, Pa., Mrs. Nelson was the daughter of the late Michael Madar and Susan Hudak Madar. She had been a Vicksburg resident since 1977 and was employed at the Top of the Hub for a number of years.

She was a member of the Vicksburg Country Club and was an ardent golfer.

Mrs. Nelson was of the Catholic faith.

She is survived by three daughters, Barbara N. Purdy of San Jose, Calif., Sandra L. Nelson of Oakland Park, Fla., and Kathleen N. Bowen of Vicksburg; one son, Geoffrey R. Nelson of Vicksburg; three grandchildren, Sarah Purdy, A.J. Purdy and Aubrey Bowen; one great-granddaughter, Kaybry Lewis; and a sister, Mary Fugo of Cleveland, Ohio.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard W. Nelson; one sister, Anna Aiello; and four brothers, Andrew Madar, Michael Madar, John Madar and Joseph Madar.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Riles Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. P.J. Curley officiating. Interment services will be private. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
