City man jailed on statutory rape charge

A Vicksburg man was in the Warren County Jail today charged with statutory rape, jail record showed.
Larry Williams, 25, 289 Ironwood Drive, was arrested by Warren County sheriff’s deputies at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
Williams is accused of buying a bus ticket to Vicksburg for a 15-year-old girl, a runaway from La Crosse, Wis., said Sheriff Martin Pace. The two are believed to have met through the Internet, Pace added.
Williams was being held without bond pending his initial court appearance. The girl is under the care of the Mississippi Department of Human Services, Pace said, until she is returned to her parents.
Village Drive man injured in struggle
A Vicksburg man was taken to River Region Medical Center this morning with slashes to his arm, police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.
About 3:50 a.m., Gerard Hicks, 29, 125 Village Drive, reported to police that he awakened to someone banging on his door. Hicks told police he answered the door to find a man standing there. The two fought, the man cut him on his arm, then fled.
Hicks was treated and released, said River Region spokesman Diane Gawronski.
City woman held on Texas warrant
A Vicksburg woman was arrested Thursday on a 2005 forgery warrant from Brazoria County, Texas.
At 3:27 p.m., Debra Buchanan, 49, No. 4, N. Poplar St., was arrested at Walmart, Vicksburg police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.
Police had gotten a tip from Angleton, Texas, authorities that Buchanan might be employed there. Angleton is in the Houston area.
Buchanan was in the Warren County Jail, without bond, pending extradition to Texas.
Chevy, game equipment among missing items
A car and video game consoles were among items reported missing in Vicksburg, said police Lt. Bobby Stewart.
At 2:49 this morning, a purse valued at $80 and containing $300 in cash and other items, was reported stolen from a 1998 Cadillac Deville that had been parked in the 1000 block of Mulberry Street.
At 8:20 p.m. Thursday, a white 2001 Chevrolet Impala, with Mississippi plates MRYEAH and a value of $15,000, was reported stolen from the 1900 block of Hope Street.
Around noon Thursday, an Xbox 360 valued at $500, a Nintendo DS valued at $150, a PlayStation 2 valued at $150 and a pair of Jordan sneakers valued at $200 were reported stolen from a home in the 2100 block of Baker Street.
Fire uproots family on Letitia Street
A family of 12 is displaced after a Thursday morning fire at a home on Letitia Street, Vicksburg Deputy Fire Chief Ken Daniels said.
The blaze was reported about 6:30 a.m., and the house was engulfed when firefighters arrived, said Investigator Sam Brocato.
No one was injured, Daniels said, and the Vicksburg Area Chapter of the American Red Cross has been assisting the family.
An electrical outlet might have been to blame, Brocato said.
