Warren Central’s goal-keeper, G-mal Brinnon, has yet to give up a goal in six games and three foreign exchange students continue to cut up opposing team’s defenses at a record clip.

Friday night, the unbeaten Vikings (6-0) thrashed the visiting McComb Tigers 6-0 at Viking Stadium.

Robert Langeland of Norway scored two goals, Jacob Petterson of Sweden had a goal and an assist and Tim Hoeptner of Germany had a goal and an assist to key the Vikings attack. Brinnon, meanwhile, kept his scoreless streak intact, making a brilliant, diving stop of McComb’s best scoring chance in the second half.

“That’s his sixth shutout and that’s why I wanted to keep him in there,” WC coach Greg Head. “He made a beautiful save there in the second half.”

Head also liked the play of his “new additions.”

“They all have got great skill. We can work teams both inside and outside. Tonight we worked the ball well and set up some feeds,” Head said.

Petterson said American high school soccer is much different than in Sweden.

“The guys here are not as big as the ones I play against. I play against adults on a third division team in Sweden,” Petterson said.

Petterson got the Vikings rolling in the game’s first 10 minutes. He set up Eric Chappell with an easy goal for a 1-0 lead. Petterson, who has taken over the center-mid position for the Vikings, got a goal when he bounced a kick off a McComb player into the net for a 2-0 lead.

Langeland got his first goal with 5:40 left in the first half on an assist by Caleb Hollingsworth. Five minutes into the second half, he got his second off a setup from Tre Wilson. Hoeptner set up the last two goals. His perfect pass to Chappell made it 5-0. He then got an unassisted goal to cap the scoring.

McComb had just four shots on goal and Brinnon made two saves, the best being his diving stop of an upper corner kick by the Tigers’ Bradley Brock.

Mallory Reynolds had two goal and two assists to keep the Lady Vikes (4-0-2) unbeaten.

Shannon Richter scored WC’s first goal and Reynolds followed with a goal and an assist. Lindsey Barfield added a score while Dana Warnock booted two goals in the second half. Lindsey Burris and Richter had an assist apiece.

WC coach Janet McMaster likes how her team is doing but is hoping the week-long Thanksgiving break doesn’t dent the Lady Vikes’ momentum.

“We’ve been doing pretty good, but the truth will come out when we play Vicksburg a week from Tuesday. We need to keep working hard. With every game, we get a little bit better,” McMaster said.
