On the agenda
• Accepted a bid from Trustmark Bank on a $3.58 million loan the county is seeking to cover shortfalls in general county and other funds.
The loan, called a tax anticipation note, will carry a 1.71 percent interest rate and will act as a cash advance until property tax revenue arrives in March. Besides the general fund, accounts marked for salaries, supplies and equipment in the Road Department and interest payments on bonds for improvements at the Port of Vicksburg are marked for shoring-up as a result of the loan.
• Approved a $100 full-page ad in the program for the 13th annual NAACP Freedom Fund event.
• Approved a letter to the Mississippi Development Authority asking that 2008 HOME program funds be extended for eight more qualifiers.
The program provides down payment assistance for first-time, low-income homebuyers. An extension would total $250,000, officials said.
