On Sept. 24, there was a picture of several dignitaries on the Washington Street bridge over the railroad at Clark Street. They were making statements on how important the bridge is to Vicksburg. District 5 Supervisor Richard George said it was “as serious as it gets when businesses are affected so severely.
From the word go, everyone has known this was a project that had to be done. No way around it. It should have been a top priority. It was not. Now, after several months, it is on the front burner.
It seems to me they should have started work and gone as far as the money they had would let them go. Instead, they put the money on hold. Now $425,000 has been spent on planning and designing and in the meantime the price doubled while the city was pouring flower beds in what were nice, wide streets.
Taxpayers should be asking questions and demanding answers.
