Success stories plentiful

My daughter transferred to Vicksburg public schools last year as a high school sophomore. Given some of the bad press our schools had been getting, we were anxious to say the least.
Fortunately, our experience runs very contrary to the recent headlines that you may have seen in our local newspaper. (Superintendent) Jim Price will tell you that there is a wide variety of students in our schools today, but the fact is the opportunities are there for extraordinary success.
My daughter is in an English class with only six other students. The curriculum is so rigorous the rest of the class dropped out. She is now having to perform on a genuine college level. She had a choice of a number of foreign languages and has been very enthused over French. Thanks to an inspiring American History teacher, she has now demonstrated a sudden interest in current events and politics.
It is, indeed, unfortunate that many of our young people in our community are at risk, but our public schools are utilizing their considerable resources to make sure that real opportunities are there for all those who are ready to learn.
