The fourth and final defendant in a methamphetamine bust two years ago was sentenced in Warren County Circuit Court this week.
Angela Wright, 29, 112 Bering St., pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine and possession of precursor chemicals in the raid at the Magnolia Commons Apartments off Nailor Road.
She was sentenced by Judge Isadore Patrick to the 9th Circuit Court Drug Court Program for a period not to exceed five years, plus fines and court costs totaling $1,322.50.
If Wright fails the drug court program, she could be required to serve a 15-year prison sentence which Patrick held in abeyance.
Wright was arrested Dec. 7, 2007, along with James Dudley Maynord, Christopher Jones and Johnny Anderson. Deputies and agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics reported finding a portable drug lab in the back of Maynord’s truck with an active methamphetamine cook in process.
Maynord, 35, whose attorney requested that his case be heard separately from the other defendants’, was convicted by a jury Sept. 9 following a two-day trial. After a pre-sentencing report was filed by court officers and Maynord’s family members had a chance to write letters to the judge on his behalf, Patrick sentenced him to serve 10 years in prison plus pay a $10,000 fine.
Anderson, 34, pleaded guilty in a different case to shooting into an occupied dwelling. He is serving an eight-year prison term, to which he was sentenced by Patrick in June. The meth-related charges were not prosecuted.
Jones, 35, admitted possession of crystal meth and was given a net one year and one day sentence followed by five years of probation. He was also assessed $5,622.50 in fines and court costs and ordered to complete drug and alcohol counseling. The second charge of possession of precursor chemicals was not prosecuted.
