A pregnant Edwards woman was injured and the baby died when she was shot in the abdomen Friday evening. An Edwards man had been arrested and charged with the shooting.
Charmaine Maxey, 26, was at University Medical Center in serious but stable condition this morning, hospital spokesman Mary McElroy said.
The suspect was identified as Clifford Noel, 26, 2579 Anderson Road, said Capt. Steve Bailey of the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department.
Bailey said Maxey was sitting as a passenger in a vehicle driven by Noel and parked at the Anderson Road address. He said an investigation showed the shooting followed “horseplay” by Noel and another man, who has not been charged.
Noel was charged with aggravated assault for the shooting and culpable negligence manslaughter for the unborn child, Bailey said.
He was held without bond at the Hinds County Jail.
