Two Vicksburg residents held for cocaine

Two Vicksburg residents were in the Issaquena County Jail today charged with possession of cocaine.

Alvis Christon, 32, 279 Ironwood Drive, and Jeannie Lowery, 27, 1019 First North St., are accused of having about two grams of crack cocaine with a street value of $100 when they were arrested at a home at 801 Clark St. at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Vicksburg police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.

“We had received a report of drug activity at the residence,” Stewart said.

The homeowner was not charged because he told police he was not aware of the activity.

Christon and Lowery were being held on $10,000 each.

Break-ins reported at business, homes

A business burglary and two residential burglaries were reported in the city and county during the weekend.

Town and Country Lounge, 3350 N. Washington St., reported at 11:59 a.m. Sunday that $150 had been stolen from the pool table and juke box.

A Featherlite leaf blower valued at $170 and a Ryobi weed trimmer valued at $125 were reported missing at 12:20 a.m. Monday from a home in the 100 block of Kings Crossing Road.

A Philips stereo with speakers valued at $250 and a Lakewood radiant heater valued at $40 were reported missing at 4:03 p.m. Friday from a home in the 100 block of Bridlewood Drive.

Edwards woman’s condition upgraded

The condition of an Edwards woman who was shot in the abdomen, killing her unborn child,  has been upgraded to good at University Medical Center, a hospital spokesman said today.

Charmaine Maxey, 26, was injured Friday while sitting in a vehicle driven by a man identified by officials as Clifford Noel, 26, 2579 Anderson Road, said Capt. Steve Bailey of the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department.

An investigation showed “horseplay” between Noel and another man led to the shooting, Bailey said.

Noel was charged with aggravated assault for the shooting and culpable negligence manslaughter for the unborn baby, he said.

The other man was not charged.

City man injured in wreck at 4-way

A Vicksburg man was injured in a one-vehicle wreck at the 4-way intersection of Clay Street, U.S. 61 North, Mississippi 27 and U.S. 80 at 8:15 p.m. Monday.

Leon Tubwell, 61, 1312 1/2 Fillmore St., was headed south on U.S. 61 when he lost control of his Ford Explorer and ran off the road, Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol Trooper Wayne Smith said.

Witnesses told officials the vehicle rolled “a couple of times,” Smith said, and landed upright.

He was treated and released from River Region Medical Center, hospital spokesman Allen Karel said.
