Agnes Davis

RIDGELAND — Mrs. Earl “Agnes” Davis, age 85, died Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, in Ridgeland. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009, at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home on Highland Colony Parkway with the Rev. Bobby Williamson officiating. A private family burial will take place at Lakewood Memorial Park. Visitation will be today at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home on Highland Colony Parkway from 5 until 7 p.m.

Mrs. Davis was born Jan. 12, 1924, to the late Robert Grmalia and Agnes Issabella DuPliasir Simmons in Vicksburg. She graduated high school from Culkin Academy and was the salutatorian of her graduating class.

Mrs. Davis married Earl Davis on Dec. 27, 1940, and was married for almost 69 years. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and taught Sunday school to the first- and second-graders for 45 years. She retired as a supervisor in 1988 after 45 years with Crescent Industries.

She is survived by her husband, Earl Davis of Ridgeland; a son, Dr. Robert Earl Davis and his wife, Judy, of Dayton, N.J.; a daughter-in-law, Myra Davis of Brandon; four grandchildren, Lisa Davis of Cordova, Tenn., Dr. Brian Davis of Tyler, Texas, Diana Poulson and her husband, William, of Arlington, Texas, and Rob Davis and his wife, Chris, of Evansville, Ind; 14 great-grandchildren, Zachery Lee, Beverly Logan, A.J. Eckert, Jenna Eckert, Justin Eckert, Brandon Eckert, Jessica Davis, Logan Powell, Veronica Davis, Angus Davis, T.J. Davis, Diana Nichole McPhail, Erica Rogers and Jeremy Rogers; one great-great-grandchild, Jay McPhail IV; one sister, Mrs. Gena Miller of Vicksburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Larry Ray Davis; a granddaughter, Karen Davis Rogers; a sister, Mrs. Anna Merritt; and two brothers, Robert Simmons and Jim Simmons.
