Competitions
• Fenly Akers of Vicksburg has been crowned Miss Mississippi State University. A sophomore majoring in communication/broadcasting and public relations, she is the daughter of Tom and Lynda Akers. She will represent MSU in the 2010 Miss Mississippi Pageant in Vicksburg.
Honor rolls
• Kimberly Christine Cool and Christopher P. Rabalais, both of Vicksburg, have been named to the fall quarter president’s honor list at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston.

In attendance
• Donnie Barnett, Kayla Carson, Brittany Holman and Andrew Chouccoli, students in Charles Amborn’s Jobs for Mississippi Graduates classes at Warren Central High School, attended a student leadership conference in Washington, D.C. The participants were part of 400 students nationwide who attended the conference, which included Jobs for America’s Graduates workshops and training.
Achievements
• Elizabeth Edwards, a Vicksburg Christian Home School student, has been selected for membership into the National Society of High School Scholars. Membership into the organization, which recognizes top scholars and those who achieve superior academic excellence, is by invitation only.
• Warrenton Elementary students were rewarded with a SuperKids Field Day by the American Lung Association of Mississippi after raising more than $600 for the organization. Students participated in relays, potato sack races and a tug-o-war competition. Top collector was Ahria Reynolds, a third-grader, who was recognized as Top SuperKid and received a DVD player for raising $145.
