Two women charged with kidnapping, auto theft

Auto theft and kidnapping charges landed two Vicksburg women in the Warren County Jail Wednesday.

Shavonka Williams, 30, and Evelyn Wilson, 35, both of 2626 Pearl St., were arrested at home at 12:37 p.m. and accused of holding a woman against her will for three hours and taking her gray 2004 Honda Civic with Ohio plates ENV1093, Vicksburg police Lt. Bobby Stewart said. The complaint was filed Nov. 23, and the car has not been recovered.

The victim told police the two assaulted her and accused her of taking $100 and two rings while she was cleaning their home, Stewart said. She was not injured and denied the accusations.

Williams and Wilson were charged with one count of each crime and taken to jail, where they were held on $35,000 each until bonds were paid later Wednesday night.

Resident closes door, blocks fire from home

A quick-thinking city resident shut the door on a residential fire Wednesday, possibly saving her home from further damage.

Althea Murphy, 3902 Halls Ferry Road, was at home when a candle fell from a bedroom table at about 10 a.m., catching the room on fire, said Vicksburg fire inspector Leslie Decareaux. Murphy closed the bedroom door, limiting the blaze.

A neighbor who saw the smoke extinguished the fire with a garden hose, she said, limiting damage to one room.

Clothing, jewelry among missing items

Jewelry, electronics and clothing were reported missing in the city and county Wednesday.

A Toshiba telescope valued at $260, a silver ring valued at $180 and a Pulsar watch valued at $270 were reported stolen from a 1987 Dodge van in a parking lot in the 4100 block of Washington Street at 10:47 p.m., Vicksburg police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.

An Xbox game console valued at $350, an MP3 player valued at $80, a pair of Coogi pants valued at $250 and a pair of Rock Wear pants valued at $60 were reported stolen from a home in the 200 block of Pleasant Valley Drive at 3:12 p.m., county records showed.

City man charged for crack cocaine

A Vicksburg man was released from the Warren County Jail on a $10,000 bond Wednesday morning after being arrested hours earlier for possession of crack cocaine with the intent to deliver, records showed.

Vicksburg police arrested Keithen Smith, 39, 1717 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., at about 8 a.m. on a Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics warrant, said Lt. Bobby Stewart, chief of investigations.
