James Edward Crosby

BROOKHAVEN — James Edward “Ed” Crosby died Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009, at his home in Brookhaven. He was 71.
Mr. Crosby retired as a machinist from LeTourneau. He was in the Army National Guard and was a member of Cold Springs Church of Christ.
He loved gardening and riding his tractor. He participated in the Brookhaven Farmers’ Market and thoroughly enjoyed visiting with old and new friends. Mr. Crosby was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting. His recent fishing trips with his nephew, Mitch Foster, and brother-in-law, Leonard Foster, were the highlights of many days.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Burton Eldridge Crosby and Mildred “Billie” Aldridge Crosby; a sister, Susie Waltman; and four brothers, David Crosby, Buddy Crosby, Wilmer Crosby and Pat Crosby.
Survivors include his wife, Violet Allen Crosby; one son, David Mitchell Crosby of Portland, Maine; two daughters, Debra Renae Smith of Brookhaven and Susan Crosby Nichols and husband Al of Mendenhall; two brothers, Mike Crosby of Bogue Chitto and Carroll Crosby of Natchez; and four grandchildren, Christopher James Sylvestri of Monroe, La., Rebecca Sylvestri Gillen and husband Dain of Baker, La., Mason Landon Smith of Brookhaven and Judson Noal Smith of Huntsville, Texas.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Riverwood Family Funeral Service in Brookhaven. Burial will follow at Cold Springs Church of Christ Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Baptist Children’s Village in Jackson.
